Genre choice of film

My main genre was horror which is what i wanted my film to be based behind. I always loved horror as a child due to the thrills and chills you get while watching those types of movies, which is something i thought i can capture in a short film. Horror has many aspects to it, including music, sound effects, lighting, and jump- scares. All these aspects are key, the sound effects are what made me truly interested in it behind the fact that many sounds are created by random objects by a mic, for say a loud bang/ thunder is created by a loud hit to a mental trashcan, or bones crunching can be a large amount raw pasta broken at the right time. It just makes it a lot more fun to create your own sounds with objects you could find at home. My film itself is a film based on a character who wakes up alone with a task to find an object before time runs out. The horror aspect is behind the evil spirit which torments the character while he searches for this missing item. Lighting is another key effect which played in the right sense makes this film perfect for a horror genre. The house would be based of a dark atmosphere with not many lights, with an addition to red flares and red blood on the walls gives it that touch of color but also symbolizes death and bodily fluids. This genre just clicked better in my head than the others did when picturing it in a house, with nobody in it, darken rooms, and one solid objective. Having it be an action movie would put it in means to be a fast paced movie with the character always being badass and having accomplishments made, not to say that isn't a good plan just not the one i am personally into. Now science fiction is possible but the reason to avoid it would be the immense pressure of digital editing as science fiction relies on things out of this universe or bounds of possibility which can't be found in the average home, to make this film as authentic as possible i'd reach it to be editing only for the necessary effects of horror such as the sound effects, lighting, and jump-scares; rather than the scenery. Jump-scares i would say to be the best part of a horror film, the tension built up through multiple scenes to get it to the part where no one expected. This is key to my film as it's the end scene and the cliff hanger to my story, where this character get's taken by this shadow figure after completing the request this evil spirit asked of him. For my pitch, i'd say there is little to no work even needed for it, all of the connections make sense for a horror movie. A character unknown of his surroundings, a evil spirit maybe out for revenge, a mystical creepy object as the task, and plenty of scenarios of jump-scares to be played out. Action and science fiction where just some genres i put in play to take out certain parts which may look good in the final product of my horror film. For action I can take out the main usage for a tracking shot used in long taken shots to put in my horror film for the scene in which my character may run from something or someone or even just try to escape. As to go for science fiction, I may be able to take upon some editing aspects and put it towards this shadow monster I would be creating to get the best possible effect for the audience. Horror was and will always be my favorite genre, no matter how to use it the pay off is greatly anticipated and loved upon, with people being scared straight but also excited for the road it will take in the ending.
