Starting this project, my first inspiration was horror, i have always been a fan and never stopped watching horror based movie/short films. The three genres i choose and decided on research where as follow: Horror, Action, and Science Fiction. Science fiction and horror do play a part together and can have some tied similarities, however i wanted to choose these topics and they are seemingly the best suited for my film/pitch. My pitch "Jason awakes to find himself alone in a house, in order to escape he must find the picture with no face, before time runs out", has a horror aspect built into it however it can go multiple ways. Say i want it to become an action film, it still fits the theme of having it become a mission, or even if i were to do a Science Fiction genre then i could add little details about a different world inserted into the movie. Mainly my genre i focus on is horror since the whole scheme towards it is amazing, the different sounds, colors, even camera angles used within it. Not to mention the different time periods, the olden days of monsters or just the suspense one gets from watching a horror based film. Comedy wouldn't aspire since having a task to retrieve a creepy item isn't so funny, nor romantic if it were put as a romantic genre. Action can fit into this pitch of mine, creating suspense but in a fun way with a goal/mission which carries out at the end with a twist to be unknown. Or even the classic Science fiction which brings in the world of CGI and effects, not many in my part which i'd want to include into my film, however it is always an option. The fun behind research such genres is the multiple effects used in these type of movies/short films. Horror uses sounds which boost certain sense and can change the mood of the film. While action brings a sense of rush and adrenaline with action pack music, and many vibrant colors, and then science fiction just brings a new reality into change with drastic effects in play. Im leaning towards horror all the way, but to research the way in which these other genres can be put into play would really help in the process of creation using different editing formats from both of the other genres. I wanted to bring the effects behind music and color into play with my film. Horror has a variety of sounds which collaborate with the colors, say for black and white a pop of white can be once a suspense piece happens within the sound like a dramatic high. For action it's a bit more complicated as some music section would have accompany different shot of the camera, for a high action part the music or sound piece may need to be high or fast paced rather than slow yet high pitched. This is why it's great to choose these type's of genres since they all have different aspects towards them while also having a key role to play within the film. This 5 minute film with a begging middle and end may best have a plot point in such little time, with an action movie it takes for a thriller part of the movie to be created in time once everything is established, however for a horror film the jump can come at any point in time. It creates a sense of mystery which plays a big role in my film, which is key to why horror seems to be my best choose in genres.
